Support to vulnerable communities including IDPs

We have conducted community livelihood needs assessment in Burao IDP settlements.

The outcome of that assessment was dismal and the organization immediately contacted to Diaspora and international communities to interfere immediately .as response to our appeal we received 120 tents clothes shoes for IDPs

  • Socio economic empowerment project

Burao socio economic empowerment through employing community techniques project is mainly focus on improving the livelihood of the poor and marginalized groups, in this project ODHA provided training tailors and henna and beautification materials to 300 poor households in order to sustain their livelihood income

  • Awareness raising programme

Breaking the silent on violence against women , hilaac was the first organization that publicly spoke out against “violence against women”.

We raised extensive awareness about this issue organizing women groups and provided orientations concerning their basic rights.

We also created a strong relationship between government and women groups to assist in the prevention of the future violence against women

Awareness rising for women’s participation in Somaliland elections

Hilaac was actively involved in mobilizing and lobbing for women’s participation in all levels of Somaliland elections. Several workshops were held in relation in to this issue and discussion with different stake holders about the importance of women’s participation in political system despite the community misconception concerning women’s participation we also realized that women also lacked the self confidence and capacity to organize themselves.

Hilaac is still in the process of advocating for these issues

HIV/AIDS

Hilaac has been supporting the campaign against hiv/aids mainly focusing:on prevention measures through community mobilization sensitization on the dangers for contacting this illness

FGM

In the same way we went to make community mobilization how to eradicate the FGM in our society

Education /capacity building center

Hilaac center

Majority of girls and women do not have access to education because of the traditional practice imposed by the society elders. They are not encouraged to attain school. Some parent argue that because of their low income they can’t afford to send their girls to school instead they prefe to send boys

Hence Hilaac will give high priority to women and girls education
